What is the current like in the swim portion of the race? |
| |
There is very little current in this portion of the reservoir. |
| |
|
| |
Regarding the swimming event... use full wet suits? |
| |
I think more suit is much better than not enough. You can always cool down but once you get cold you are in trouble. The wet suit will also provide floatation. I will be able to give a little better idea closer to race day. Many use a hood and many don't. Water temperatures are expected to be in the 70's. Fins may be used |

| |
Are there any restrictions on any of the race events if they fall in the night period? |
| |
I realize this isn't usually the case in such races but was asking for obvious planning reasons. There are cut off times, but they are broad. Race on my friend. |
| |
|
| |
What is the start time for the race? |
| |
0700hrs (7:00 AM) Remember there is a safety briefing on Friday at 1900hrs (7:00 PM). |
| |
|
| |
I saw on the site that there was a safety meeting on August 1st. Is this a mandatory meeting for all participants? |
| |
It is mandatory that one member of the team be briefed on the race. It is also a very informative meeting. |
| |
|
| |
What is the terrain for the first run like? |
| |
The terrain is paved road with rolling hills. No one can provide aid to you while running but there is several places on the course you can receive encouragement from your admirers. |
| |
|
| |
How involved is the orienteering portion? |
| |
The "points" are manned by a person. Some folks could complete this orienteering course with only the map, though I don't recommend that. If you have any map software, it is Rim Rock area above Kinzua Beach. |
| |
|
| |
How long is the first run? |
|
13.1 miles. |
| |
|
| |
Are we allowed to have a kayak for the paddling leg or do we have to use a canoe? |
|
So far we only have one person for this leg and he'd like to kayak. Would that be OK? Sorry, relays need two for the canoe and orienteering legs, the other legs can be a single racer. In the Solo division, you may use a kayak. |

|
| |
There's no water or support along the course correct? Are we allowed to provide support to our teammates when it's not our leg? |
|
For example can we be waiting along the course with water or food? No support is provided or may be provided by the support team only at transition points. When a racer leaves the transition point he/she must have all they need or want for the entire leg. The exception is the swim in which a swimmer can be handed food or drink (they are not to touch the safety boat or they will incur a 3 hour penalty) or if they have catastrophic failure during the bike leg and are able to contact their support team. The support team can cheer at points along the course for the racers but can not follow them. |

Is lodging only available at the YMCA on the Friday before the race? |
|
There are several hotels in the immediate area. Check out the chamber web site www.wccbi.org and click on chamber members, then look on accommodations. Also consider the local national and state parks parks. For race day, consider eating at the beautiful Docksiders Café at Wolf Run Marina www.kinzuamarina.com just across the road from the main transition point. It is also a great place to rent a boat for the day, watch the race from the water, or come back and relax. |
| |
|
| |
What type of bike should I use? |
|
The bike course is not technical. A couple folks used road bikes last year but most felt it was a little too rough (gravel roads) for a road bike. |
